Joseph S. Ward
Joseph Ward has extensive senior executive experience in early ventures and mid-size enterprises, specializing in the areas of marketing, alliance and sales operations, IT solutions and product development. He has established a solid track record for initiating early ventures and accelerating ongoing operations. He has experience in several large markets including publishing, financial and professional services and the pharmaceutical vertical.
He began his career as a Research Assistant in the Harvard Medical School laboratories at Childrens Hospital in Boston. The lab at HMS focused on cardiovascular physiology with an emphasis on pediatric congenital cardiac defects. He participated in a broad range of experimental clinical research using both surgical and pharmacological intervention.
Mr. Ward moved from HMS to the Medical Systems Division of Hewlett Packard where he held positions in sales, marketing and product management focused on providing monitoring and analytical devices and systems to hospitals and clinical research operations, worldwide.
With an increasing interest in the clinical research arena he moved to an internal start-up at Bolt, Beranek and Newman in Cambridge, Massachusetts called BBN Software Products. He lead the clinical research products group as they enhanced and launched a product called Clinfo targeted at data analysis and management for clinical trials. This eventually evolved to be an early CANDA and this product was commercialized as ClinTrial.
Mr. Ward joined Adobe Systems in 1987. He served in several executive roles including worldwide alliance and sales management, marketing, product management, M&A and seed ventures. He spun out from Adobe in 1998 to form a company called Zephyrdocs focused on collaborative solutions for document intensive applications serviced via the web. Zephyrdocs was acquired in 2000 and he supported the transition and development of the market in professional services through the fall of 2001.
Mr. Wards consulting experience includes acting as Chief Marketing Officer for Invantage, Inc., a solution company in the Clinical Investigator Recruitment and Management application space. He focused on revamping the marketing effort to build brand, pipeline and help the company get acquired. Invantage was acquired by Perceptive Informatics, Inc. in September of 2002.
